Mandrill Fixes: ready for 1.0.0

spncr requested to merge mandrill-fixes into 1.0.x

While cleaning out the mandrill issue queue, there were a few "quick fixes" merged.

This branch includes those fixes but is adjusted for any renames/refactoring that happened since then.
