Bit of a shot in the dark, but going to try chromedriver 107 (LATEST_RELEASE (stable) at time of commit is: https://chromedriver.storage.googleapis.com/106.0.5249.61/notes.txt) - just to rule out a specific issue in the version causing slow downs. If the beta doesn't run better that will at least rule out a version issue.
