Yeah sorry for the attention-getting headline, but ... yeah.

First, I wanna make it clear that to me, EugenMayer has been a notable and valuable contributor to the community for as long as I've been aware.
I'm Only actually making a post here now because the activities this week make me notice.

I have no opinion on the ins-and-outs of The actual issue that caused one project to be red-flagged due to maintainer inaction/disagreement following a security team review

I am sorta-aware of the Argumentum ad populum attempt to argue against the security team review.

I am quite aware of the impact that EugenMayers subsequent reaction has now taken and that Gerhard has now started cleaning up : A whole bunch of modules - many of them damn good - have been "unpublished" by the owner and are now unavailable (and causing red flags for anyone who chose to trust them)

I feel this, because a couple of them - notably content moderation and wysiwyg_imageupload are in active use by my team, and have been actively contributed back to by my team under my supervision.

For this reason, I have an opinion.

First - I do have a lot of respect and empathy for the contributions that EugenMayer has made. And though stability in the modules I've worked with wasn't the greatest all the time :-? , filling the gap in a couple of areas was often damn valuable. And helped my work. And I rate this developer and these contributions highly.

That said -
The act of attempting to unpublish working live open-source code is not a good one if the reasons are purely personal,
and the notice currently displayed an ALL projects is implicitly anti the GPL license that this (and all our) code is produced under.

What I'm saying is i that the notices currently displayed on these projects

Please respect the will of the author to not further distribute on drupal.org and do not clone the repos and republish here. If people can't hold back on this, we consider closing down all the public repos and maintainershipt - thank you for respecting this.

are against the spirit of the license that these contributions were entered under and (reluctantly) should be ignored.

If we have the ability and some maintainers to fill the gap, some of these projects can and should be resurrected as a drupal.org mainstream fork. One maintainer leaving a GPL project does not make the codebase dead.

This plea from the developer to not do with the code what was intended by the code contribution - is out of place.

I personally believe that the wysiwyg_imageupload project can be gracefully retired in favor of some D7 alternatives, but that an upgrade path can be provided without moral guilt. It is likely also that content_moderation or similar has some future. Other "discontinued" projects should also be free to be picked up by whoever has some input for them.

Again, I have no stance on the personal issues or the single dispute that led to this decision - I'm just reacting as a guy who uses this code and knows a little about what the license says you can and cannot do. What you cannot do is tell people they are not allowed to keep using it after you've given it to them.

In general, it would be nice if this entire dispute had a better resolution, and the tiff could be resolved better - but I'm not the one that can make that happen.

.dan.
