<h2>Problem / Motivation</h2>
<p>When a content type is configured to use the "Re-direct to another location" option (type 4), saving a node throws a fatal TypeError:</p>
<p><code>TypeError: Drupal\Core\Form\FormState::setRedirectUrl(): Argument #1 ($url) must be of type Drupal\Core\Url, false given, called in node_save_redirect.module on line 186</code></p>
<p>The root cause is that case "4" in node_save_redirect_form_node_form_submit() passes the return value of <code>\Drupal::pathValidator()->getUrlIfValid() directly to $form_state->setRedirectUrl() </code>without first checking whether it returned false.</p>
<p>Every other case in the same switch statement already guards against this correctly:</p>
<h4>Cases 1, 2, 3 — correctly guarded:</h4>
<div class="codeblock">
<pre><span style="color: #000000"><span style="color: #0000BB"><?php<br></span><span style="color: #007700">if (</span><span style="color: #0000BB">$redirect </span><span style="color: #007700">= \</span><span style="color: #0000BB">Drupal</span><span style="color: #007700">::</span><span style="color: #0000BB">pathValidator</span><span style="color: #007700">()-></span><span style="color: #0000BB">getUrlIfValid</span><span style="color: #007700">(</span><span style="color: #0000BB">$path</span><span style="color: #007700">)) {<br> </span><span style="color: #0000BB">$form_state</span><span style="color: #007700">-></span><span style="color: #0000BB">setRedirectUrl</span><span style="color: #007700">(</span><span style="color: #0000BB">$redirect</span><span style="color: #007700">);<br>}<br></span><span style="color: #0000BB">?></span></span></pre></div>
<h4>Case 4 — missing the guard (the bug):</h4>
<div class="codeblock">
<pre><span style="color: #000000"><span style="color: #0000BB"><?php<br>$redirect </span><span style="color: #007700">= \</span><span style="color: #0000BB">Drupal</span><span style="color: #007700">::</span><span style="color: #0000BB">pathValidator</span><span style="color: #007700">()-></span><span style="color: #0000BB">getUrlIfValid</span><span style="color: #007700">(</span><span style="color: #0000BB">$location</span><span style="color: #007700">);<br></span><span style="color: #0000BB">$form_state</span><span style="color: #007700">-></span><span style="color: #0000BB">setRedirectUrl</span><span style="color: #007700">(</span><span style="color: #0000BB">$redirect</span><span style="color: #007700">); </span><span style="color: #FF8000">// crashes if $redirect === false<br></span><span style="color: #0000BB">?></span></span></pre></div>
<p>A second related issue: <code>getUrlIfValid()</code> does not reliably handle paths that include a query string (e.g. <code>/admin/content?type=article&status=All</code>). When such a path is stored in <code>save_location</code> or <code>edit_location</code>, the method returns false, which then triggers the crash. The appropriate API for user-provided internal paths — including those with query strings — is <code>Url::fromUserInput()</code>.</p>
<h3>Steps to Reproduce</h3>
<ol>
<li>Go to Admin → Structure → Content types → [any type] → Edit.</li>
<li>Under Submission, set the new-content redirect to "Re-direct to another location" (type 4) and enter any path (especially one with a query string, e.g. /admin/content?type=article).</li>
<li>Save the content type.</li>
<li>Navigate to node/add/[type] and save a new node.</li>
<li>Observe the TypeError fatal error.</li>
</ol>
<h3>Proposed Resolution</h3>
<p>Add the missing if guard to case "4" so a false return from <code>getUrlIfValid()</code> never reaches <code>setRedirectUrl()</code>.<br>
For user-provided paths that begin with /, use <code>Url::fromUserInput()</code> instead of <code>getUrlIfValid()</code> so query strings are parsed correctly.</p>
<p>I have attached a patch that resolved the issue for me.</p>
