Talking points about Mentor Summit
>>> [!note] Migrated issue Reported by: [rachel_norfolk](https://www.drupal.org/user/66273) >>>
Here are a list of talking points about the Mentor Summit, the first of which will happen on 17th September 2021.
https://drupalcontributions.opensocial.site/group/contribution-mentor-summit-2021/about

What is a Mentor Summit?

A Mentor Summit is an opportunity to bring together those who are experienced core mentors, helping onboard new contributors, and those who want to be able to contribute to the Drupal project this way in the future. Think of a Mentor Summit as a bigger, more in-depth, version of a Mentor Orientation BoF we have held at DrupalCons in the past.
A Mentor Summit is also an opportunity for new ideas that may help mentors more successfully onboard new contributors to be proposed and discussed. An awesome example we will see on the 17th September is Ofer Shaal's DrupalPod.

Who should come to the Mentor Summit?

If you have mentored before at DrupalCon but want to keep up with how we are organizing things in a virtual conference like DrupalCon Europe in October, then you should come along.
If you are already a contributor to Drupal, as a developer, tester, documenter, marketer or a project manager, and know how to post new issues, comment on issues, etc, AND you see how helping others to learn these skills is important to the growth of Drupal, then you should come to the Mentor Summit.
If you want to learn more about how core maintainers assess issues before committing them, then you should come to the Mentor Summit.

But are there people the Mentor Summit is not really aimed at?

The Mentor Summit is not somewhere to come along looking for a mentor - we won't be doing any mentored contribution at this event -- it is purely to prepare mentors for that role at other events.

What time will the workshops/talks be?

We need mentors across the world, helping grow the contributor community across the world. So, we are going to try and repeat many of the workshops and talks over all timezones - starting in Australia where one of our Core Mentoring Coordinators lives - through both Asian, African and European timezones and finishing a long day in the Americas.
The times of talks will be agreed and published on the drupalcontributions website at the beginning of September.

The "first" Mentor Summit?

Yes! In the same way that we repeat the Mentor Orientation on a regular basis, we will inevitably need to repeat the Mentor Summit, too. We don't know what frequency that will be yet, of course, and we will be very much looking for guidance and feedback from the community to decide.
The same goes for the content - we want this to be actually beneficial to the community so the community should have a loud voice in what the content should be.
> Related issue: [Issue #3228096](https://www.drupal.org/node/3228096)
