Bob Snodgrass, St. Charles, Illinois. We have Fox Valley and Truple, which is a meetup here in the St. Charles area, and we work also with the Chicago and the MidCamp group.
</p>
<p>
And, yeah, so.

</p>
<p>
Sure, can't stop, no problem. I'm Nico, I'm from Austria, Drupal Austria Association, also in the Drupal CMS track lead for privacy.
</p>
<p>
Yeah, also some other thingies, but mainly I own a Drupal shop, a Drupal agency and a brand agency, and I try to help wherever I can with inputs and stuff.
</p>
<p>
So I'm also doing, did the Drupal, I don't know if you know, Drupal.com, where you see events around the world and some other.
</p>
<p>
So yeah, since 2005 or 2006, so yeah.

<p>
Very good. Glad to have you with us. So any other topics before we dive into our main feature today?
</p>
<p>
Very good. So our main feature, let me share my screen. We're going to workshop today. We're going to try to figure some things out here.
</p>

</p>
<p>
Oh, let's see if I've got the right one here. I do. This is just our notes doc. But I thought this might be the easiest place for us to kind of draft something up here.
</p>
<p>
So there's an issue in the CRM queue, which I'll open here, about reusing existing email, phone, and address fields in CRM's custom fields.
</p>
<p>
So the CRM project has these custom fields for each of email, phone, and working on address. But it's an example of kind of reinventing the wheel in some ways, right?
</p>
<p>
Because these sorts of fields already exist. But the reason this is being done is to add additional functionality that CRM needs.
</p>
<p>
Because the chief kind of canonical example of that is probably like a type for each of these things and the concept of there being a primary.
</p>
<p>
So, you know, you've got a home phone, a work phone, a mobile phone, right? As sort of a type of phone number.
</p>
<p>
You've got the same thing kind of going on with email and then address similarly, sort of same concept. But there's some other additional, you know, things that have kind of been added on there.
</p>
<p>
And so that was kind of the origin for... For, you know, this issue and why I created it, to see if we can come up with a way to better take advantage of existing innovation in Contrib.
</p>
<p>
And that led me down a bit of a rabbit hole, which we'll get into in a bit. Rob, we just did introductions.
</p>
<p>
Do you want to say a brief hello? You are muted.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=264.32">@4:24</a> - <strong>Rob Carr</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, hi there. Yeah, Rob Carr. I live near Perth in Scotland. And very, very key to get this project underway.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=273.88">@4:33</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Welcome. Thank you, Rob. Okay, so there have been a bunch of discussions and things, but I want to try to reframe this overall problem, because what it kind of led me to an understanding of, and actually maybe it would help for us to look at what CRM does right now.
</p>
<p>
How about that? Helpful to visualize it. So this is editing an individual contact in CRM. Right? And let's ignore, right, that it's cluttered.
</p>
<p>
Like, hasn't been optimized, right? Like, we know that. But let's just focus on, like, the information that's there and kind of what we feel like needs to be tracked, right?
</p>
<p>
So it's using the name module to provide these fields. Then it has its custom email field, which is basically adding in addition to its multi-value field, right?
</p>
<p>
And for each data item, right, it's got the email address, location, the sort of hold bulk reset thing. Which, I'm not sure if those are sort of general purpose enough or kind of, you know, quite what we need, what anybody needs at the moment.
</p>
<p>
And then notably, this concept of which one. One is the primary, right? Which will obviously play a role in how you communicate with them.
</p>
<p>
It's got, I think this is a typo. I don't know why it says employer of, it should be employee of.
</p>
<p>
Drush site install is the name of the organization because by default, when you install CRM, it creates an organization with the same name as the website.
</p>
<p>
So Drush site install, wonderful name. And then telephones, this is the same concept, right? So this is CRM's custom telephone field.
</p>
<p>
Same idea as email. It's got a concept of a location and a type. So I'm not quite, like we have to probably figure some of those things out, but that's not actually what I'm worried about today, right?
</p>
<p>
Phone extension, which is not something provided by core telephone telephone module. Phone extension, that's extension. Type. And this has, if you select mobile, then you select a mobile provider.
</p>
<p>
Seems like a bit of a can of worms to me.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=428.04">@7:08</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah. Why is that? Do you know the reasoning behind some of these things?
</p>
<p>

<p>
We can ask some of those questions, but my hope is maybe.

We can come up with a proposal before then so that we can present that to him and see what he thinks.

<p>
Yeah, that's what I thought, maybe.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=456.3">@7:36</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, I agree. I think it might be a bit of a dated concept. Maybe it's still necessary for some things.
</p>
<p>
I don't know.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=467.9">@7:47</a> - <strong>Paul McKibben</strong>
</p>
<p>
My main question here, and this is probably a CRM philosophical question, and it may be something that was actually already discussed and I missed it.
</p>
<p>
But, uh, um, why are we... we... Using custom fields with multiple values in them, as opposed to trying to structure our own using something like paragraphs.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=489.18">@8:09</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Or custom field.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=490.98">@8:10</a> - <strong>Paul McKibben</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah. I'll throw that idea out there, too. That's one of the reasons I'm asking that is if we're talking about sustainability over time and over successive versions of Drupal, the closer we get to what Core has, the less we stray from what Core has, think the more sustainable this will be.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=511.14">@8:31</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
That's exactly why I created the issue. So we're in the right place to figure it out. So far, I've heard custom field paragraphs.
</p>
<p>
I also want to throw out there having a custom entity, using inline entity reference, and there might be some value there.
</p>
<p>
So, but philosophically, right, to get to the philosophical question, yes, I am of the mindset as well. hope we should.
</p>
<p>
should. We should try to stay as close to core as possible, leverage contrib when there's, you know, a clear benefit to doing so, right?
</p>
<p>
And try not to create custom things if we don't have to. So if we ignore the specifics of the, like, items of data for each of these things, right?
</p>
<p>
Because I don't want us to go down the rabbit hole of, like, should we have a whole Boolean here or whatever?
</p>
<p>
We'll figure that out later, right? I think the first step is to identify, like, what should the approach be, right, for tracking, like, the data model for tracking these things so that it is flexible, right?
</p>
<p>
Because one of the big challenges with a custom field is once that schema for the field is set, you can't really change it, right?
</p>
<p>
And so I think we, in my mind, like, we should have a flexible, extensible solution here so that the use cases we can't.
</p>
<p>
Figure out or perfect now can, you know, be figured out later. So does anybody want to offer any suggestions as far as architecture here, you know, the approach of custom field versus paragraphs versus a custom entity?
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
I would not go with paragraphs because this is unstructured and we would have problems, in my opinion, to identify primary and a lot of other stuff.
</p>
<p>
It's, yeah, it's... Yeah, that's not really good, but not for structured data, which is a personal or victim, opinion.
</p>
<p>
Yeah, and there is maybe a slight double field. know, I know it. Yes.
</p>

<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=654.24">@10:54</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Could you start over? Okay, fully, also with paragraphs or just a double field?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=659.7">@10:59</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think I... Let's start at the beginning.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=661.0">@11:01</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Okay. I would not go with paragraphs. So this was my main thingy because paragraphs is unstructured. So you can add anything, anywhere, in any order and stuff.
</p>
<p>
And I think for a contact, it's more or less structured data and you have like multiple fields and the fields could maybe be multiple, but I think we should not need to reorder them or a lot of other stuff.
</p>
<p>
So I think it's not a good solution, paragraphs in that, for what you want to do. Yeah. And maybe interesting could be the double field.
</p>
<p>
The double field is like a module where you can add two, there is the name, double field. It's just two fields you can add your site building to an element and then you can have these multiple times.
</p>
<p>
But it's really limiting that it's just two fields, can add maybe a media item and a text field and these can...
</p>
<p>
I mean, multiple, and this is also not too bad UI experience, but only two fields. So, yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=727.48">@12:07</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah. And my vote would be for custom field. I've used inline entity form and ECK on other sites. I think we've got ECK, actually, on Fox Valley Drupal.
</p>
<p>
And I feel like the support from the maintainers is not quite, you know, not quite as easy. We don't really know where it's going.
</p>
<p>
And so that's been a difficult thing. I agree with Nico on the paragraph stuff. They have a tendency to get a little wild.
</p>
<p>
And in the past, I used to have a lot of problems with them. So that kind of jaded me from using them much.
</p>
<p>
For a while. And I've enjoyed using the custom field. It seems to have a closer time. And I think it's actually stored within the node.
</p>
<p>
So if the contact, for instance, is a node, then it's easily used in views and whatever. So we've used that quite extensively on one project recently, and it's pretty phenomenal.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=807.14">@13:27</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I'll ask some questions. So I looked at custom field and double field yesterday, and I want to ask in the context of not knowing exactly what data we want to track for email addresses, for phone numbers, for addresses, double field obviously is only two things.
</p>
<p>
So it'd be great if all we needed to track was like home or work and email address, right? But I think we forecast.
</p>
<p>
Having additional things to track, so maybe that one wouldn't work. Custom field, more flexible. However, it has a defined set of field types that it supports, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=854.78">@14:14</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Or data types it supports. Yeah, it's pretty long list, though.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=860.72">@14:20</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
What I'm wondering, though, right? So I guess let me ask this. Is the advantage of custom... I know there's an advantage of custom field over a custom entity.
</p>
<p>
From a sort of performance and scalability perspective, because the data all gets stored in one table, right? As opposed to fielded...
</p>
<p>
You know, if you've got fields that you're adding to an entity, now you've got multiple tables, multiple joins, right?
</p>
<p>
What other advantages are there to custom field over a custom entity?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=896.58">@14:56</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Well, you see that it's got integrations with those... Various modules as as feeds and, you know, feeds is concerned is probably the main one in my mind, because I see this scenario of the CRM.
</p>
<p>
We're needing to have the ability to be able to import and export data out of this system.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=925.94">@15:25</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So, is that not also supported by an entity?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=932.02">@15:32</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
It is, yes.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=935.0">@15:35</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I'm pushing just because I want to understand what are the relative advantages of custom field over an entity.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=940.14">@15:40</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, and I don't know that from a technical standpoint I can answer that question. I wasn't the one building most of the things that we did in the project that we just used it on, but I saw what we did with that and, yeah.
</p>
<p>
There's not another tool out there that I have seen that gives us the same kind of flexibility that gave us.
</p>
<p>
You build a custom entity. I assume that's what you're thinking about there, JD, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=978.32">@16:18</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=978.98">@16:18</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
You build a custom entity and you've got a custom module, basically, right? So this doesn't have to be a custom module.
</p>
<p>
It's closer to the UI. And you can do all of the configuration with it within the UI.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=998.22">@16:38</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Anyone else have thoughts?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1000.36">@16:40</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
The transportable. It also gives someone, if they were using custom field, if they had some particular reason from an organizational standpoint to add or remove fields from this custom field that's there, they'd have the ability to do that.
</p>
<p>
that. That's just a config change.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1027.3">@17:07</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So I did a very quick proof of concept right here. So this is the CRM telephone field. Now this one, phone numbers, uses a storage entity, you know, the storage project.
</p>
<p>
Which basically is just kind of like a poor man's custom entity. But pretty simple. So I think it's a good placeholder for a custom entity versus using it.
</p>
<p>
Either one could work. And just took a look, right? So, you know, obviously it needs a little work. Like add new storage is not user friendly.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1079.14">@17:59</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
That's a known issue in the module.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1080.0">@18:00</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
That's something that's fixable, right? And so all I added was type and a telephone field, right? Not a valid phone number.
</p>
<p>
So it's because I added the validation from another module on here, which clearly there's a UI issue. We need a better widget, right?
</p>
<p>
But you can imagine, right, there could be other fields there, right, when you go to create or edit it.
</p>
<p>
It's extensible because we can add fields after launch. End user can add other fields, right? You can add more than one.
</p>
<p>
And then to the question of a primary, one thing I saw used somewhere, but I can't think of exactly where, is rather than have to have like a radio button to track...
</p>
<p>
Those things, there could be like a button, like make primary, that all that does is brings it to the top of the list and styles it differently.
</p>
<p>
I didn't, so I didn't implement anything there, but I wonder if that could be a solution for whatever we, whatever underlying solution is chosen.
</p>
<p>
Because then at least the first item in the list is always the primary, and that could be just sort of a known convention, right, for tracking, you which one's primary and selecting it.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1173.78">@19:33</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sure. You know, if that button didn't get there, and similar to thing with, similar thing with custom field, you, what we do a lot of times when we have multiple of those is that we just drag and drop it on the top, on the top one, and that is primary.
</p>
<p>
That's how we kind of use it, but adding that button there could automate that process of making sure it gets moved to the top with an event on save or something like that.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1216.32">@20:16</a> - <strong>Rob Carr</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, I'd agree. I think having the top phone number is the primary one, and then just having something in the UI, just to demonstrate that, I think would be fine, rather than a radio button.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1229.24">@20:29</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, it'd give us a, okay, we want to do that, but that could be something that happened later.
</p>
<p>
It wouldn't have to happen in the front end.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1241.38">@20:41</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yep. Yeah, as long as we, as long as the convention is documented and agreed upon, the movement can come later.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1249.62">@20:49</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
And also in the help for that field, you know, so that it's clear.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1255.3">@20:55</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.-hmm.-hmm.-hmm.-hmm. Mm Mm Yeah. Now, what negatives do we anticipate here, right? And also, is there, because I'm not super familiar with custom field, right, is there an advantage over this, right, that custom field would provide that I don't understand, if anybody knows?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1278.2">@21:18</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, and I don't know what that would be offhand right now, JD. I can talk to Kristen and see what her thoughts are on this, but the other advantage that I have, that I've seen with custom field is I can use it a lot of places, kind of like paragraphs.
</p>
<p>
You can use paragraphs all over the place, right, for many different things. But with custom field, you could do that with just about any grouping of fields on a node that you want to have the ability to have an unlimited number and sort the order of them.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1325.56">@22:05</a> - <strong>Rob Carr</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think custom field for me, just looking at it, because I'm probably more of a site builder than a developer.
</p>
<p>
I think that looks more straightforward to play around with. And as Bob said earlier, you've got the integration with feeds and the search API as well, which I think is pretty significant.
</p>
<p>
Which I'm not seeing, that doesn't stand out on the storage entities. So it's things like, you know, you've got to be able to integrate with, you know, all the old favorites, like views and so on, searching and everything.
</p>
<p>
So, you know, and it's got Linkit as well, which I think is a great module.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1363.86">@22:43</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So I think I do want to warn, I think that the listing of integrations could be a bit of a red herring on the custom field, because the reason that those are there is because it is a field, so it kind of has to build in these custom integrations for that.
</p>
<p>
That stuff to work. Whereas when we use an entity, which is just all that storage creates is an entity, right?
</p>
<p>
That stuff is just sort of out of the box to the same degree that anything that you create with fields, right, is sort of works with those modules.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1398.22">@23:18</a> - <strong>Rob Carr</strong>
</p>
<p>
And I suppose the only other difference, then, is the storage overhead. And it looks, I mean, the custom one looks pretty reasonable.
</p>
<p>
You know, you've just got your, you know, however many fields you're adding in there and bust the sort of basics.
</p>
<p>
So I'd imagine that's going to be the same, if not identical to storage entities.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1418.16">@23:38</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
There's definitely a performance benefit to custom field over entities because it stores all of the field items in the same table.
</p>
<p>
So there's fewer joins when selecting the data. The chief disadvantage I see is you're restricted to the set of data types available there, which means if X, Y,
</p>
<p>
The use case came along later, right? And they need to add something a little more sophisticated. Actually, a simple example would be the address field, right?
</p>
<p>
Is that supported by custom field?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1452.06">@24:12</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think it is, but I'm not sure. I had hopes of being able to put some things together just using Drupal CMS as a base, adding custom field to it, adding the CRM to it, and seeing what I can build, but I hadn't gotten there yet.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1474.62">@24:34</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So it's not listed in the documentation as a supported type.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1479.82">@24:39</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Okay.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1480.78">@24:40</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So that alone might disqualify this as sort of a general approach because we obviously will need to support presumably the address field.
</p>
<p>
So then net, right? If we go with an approach that uses... Is an entity reference field pointing to an entity, whether that entity is a custom fieldable entity, or it's an entity created with a storage entities module or whatever, right?
</p>
<p>
And we broadly have a, you know, user interface that does something, right, in this regard. The net negative relative to the custom CRM-provided field, there's the performance because we've got an entity reference to an entity that's fieldable as opposed to, you know, a bunch of data in the same table.
</p>
<p>
But we've added the flexibility of being fieldable, right? So anything can be added to this in the future. I think some of those performance issues can be mitigated through things like, you know, using...
</p>
<p>
Solar, right, for indexing things where you need to load a bunch of, you know, show data and search through it.
</p>
<p>
Thinking about the use cases where you've got lots and lots of data. I don't Nico, do have something there?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1575.82">@26:15</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, I just want to say solar is, again, more complexity also then. So much more complexity for a lot of people, I would guess, but also a solution.
</p>
<p>
Maybe you can have a test where we have, like, 10,000 contacts are generated with Generate, how this would perform.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1599.34">@26:39</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I would say just offhand, I have no concerns over 10,000 contacts. In my experience, this kind of thing won't have any kind of issue.
</p>
<p>
It's more when you get up into, like, hundreds of thousands and millions and things.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1610.82">@26:50</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Now you're... Yeah, and they can then, of course, have a solar because they are a bigger company then who doesn't matter about solar and anything.
</p>
<p>
Yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1622.58">@27:02</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So my gut is like I'm not overly concerned about this effectively pre-baked in performance regression, but I would value anybody else's opinions.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1637.84">@27:17</a> - <strong>Paul McKibben</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, it sounds like for the 1.0 release, we're targeting small organizations, right? And they're, you know, the Atlanta Drupal user group is, you know, measured in the hundreds.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1646.76">@27:26</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Well, so here's the trick though, right? Member platform, for member platform, that is true. And that's who we're optimizing for.
</p>
<p>
For the CRM project, right? I don't think that that limitation applies, that focus.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1661.04">@27:41</a> - <strong>Paul McKibben</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1661.86">@27:41</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So when Steven joins here in a few minutes, hopefully he's the maintainer of CRM, we can pick his brain on that.
</p>
<p>
Okay, so it sounds like we have a general approach that we feel pretty good about, and we'll see. joining see.
</p>
<p>
Thank Let's Thank What holes Steven can shoot in it? I think one other advantage of this approach is it means we don't need to figure out all the details of some of these, this extra data about this contact information.
</p>
<p>
So, for example, I think it'll be much easier to say, well, in CRM 1.0, we're not going to track mobile providers.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1704.42">@28:24</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1705.2">@28:25</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right. Because we don't have a need to have that field built in from the start. Because it's fieldable, it can be changed later.
</p>
<p>
I also think when it comes to addresses, the ability to use the address projects field, the address field, will mean that all the things, for example, that map, you know, addresses on a map, right?
</p>
<p>
As like a really powerful feature for advanced use cases, right? It be much easier than if we have some sort of custom field that they all need to be adapted to support.
</p>
<p>
And so definitely the fieldable approach will facilitate that.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1757.96">@29:17</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Do you want to do something else like an address field or that was, I think, because of the map?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1766.32">@29:26</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sorry, say it again, Nico.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1768.36">@29:28</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
So like I said, you are, because of a map and stuff, do you want not to use address field or?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1775.32">@29:35</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
No, what I was referring to is there's a need, right, for contacts to track their various addresses. And the CRM module was providing a, going to provide a custom, like a CRM address field that would thus not be directly compatible with existing mapping solutions that assume an address field is present.

</p>
<p>
Yeah. Yeah. Why don't we talk a little bit about kind of access control as it relates to these things?
</p>
<p>
Because if we're introducing a bunch of entities, right, I guess one simplification I would propose is that these entities only be edited, created, edited, and deleted through the inline entity form on the contact entity itself.
</p>
<p>
So not have them be user accessible, modifiable, like in their own interface, right? I wouldn't want to see a list of phone numbers, phone number entities somewhere that people can go and edit and delete.
</p>
<p>
Because I think that's going to throw a wrench into their being referenced, right, from the individual contact entity. What other considerations are there?
</p>
<p>
Oh, I see Steven joined.

</p>
<p>
Hey, Steven. Thanks for joining. I don't know how long you've been here. Only a moment. Only a moment. Okay, so I'll catch you up.
</p>
<p>
So we were talking about, obviously, the different custom fields in CRM and kind of how we could make that more flexible, extensible, closer to core, leveraging, contrib, et cetera.
</p>
<p>
We had a whole slew of things we were kind of talking about. And so our net proposal, I think we're coming up with, is rather than have custom fields provided by CRM,
</p>
<p>
Could we instead use multi-value entity references for each of telephone, email, and address? Have those point to either a custom entity or an entity provided by something like the storage entities module.
</p>
<p>
And use inline entity form on the contact entities as the exclusive way for those to be created, edited, and deleted.
</p>
<p>
Such that the net result is there's a fieldable entity that affords for arbitrary information needs to be tracked per contact data type, making up a term there, going forward.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1973.62">@32:53</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sounds complicated.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=1978.06">@32:58</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So are... Are, I guess the advantages, right, are around the flexibility and extensibility. So we wouldn't need to nail down all the pieces of data that would be tracked for a phone number or for an email address or for an address up front.
</p>
<p>
So it affords for more flexibility over time. I do have a quick proof of concept. Except, it's not a very exciting one, right, down here, which is, I just whipped up using a storage entities.
</p>
<p>
Right, so whatever other fields could be in here. And we would need to work on some widget stuff and other things, right?
</p>
<p>
Uh-oh, what did I do?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2039.66">@33:59</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
It is not a valid... Phone number, hmm.
</p>

<p>

</p>
<p>
Yeah, maybe it doesn't like the 555. That must be a rule that I don't know about with U.S. phone numbers.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2056.22">@34:16</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Can't have a 555 area code. Yeah, no, that's a thing.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2065.24">@34:25</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
And then we talked about there being a convention that we could improve the UI. For later, where whatever the first item is, is the primary in this list.
</p>
<p>
So you could imagine a UI improvement. could add a button saying make primary that just moves it to the top of the list.
</p>
<p>
And then highlights it and makes it clear that that's the primary to avoid the need to have the radio buttons.
</p>
<p>
Also, certainly, radio buttons could be an option. And we were just starting to talk about access control and, like, how these things would be modifiable.
</p>
<p>
you these modifiable. And so my proposal would be that these would be treated just like you're editing the entity that hosts them, right, the contact that hosts them.
</p>
<p>
So if you can edit a contact, then you can, you know, modify the entity, remove the entity here associated with the contact.
</p>
<p>
But your gut instinct was complicated, so tell us more. Tell us what you think.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2133.84">@35:33</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think, one, it's going to be complicated. And then I'm not sure how much work you're really going to be saving.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2154.52">@35:54</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So let's take, we can come up with a few examples, maybe. So let's. Say there's a need to plot addresses on a map, right?
</p>
<p>
So the ability to use the address project's address field, which is already supported, you know, natively by a lot of different mapping tools in Drupal, would allow, you know, that use case to be realized much more easily.
</p>
<p>
But to do that, right, we can't sort of wedge the address field into a custom address field provided by CRM, but we could very easily add it, you know, out of the box as a field on the address entity, you know, the contact's address entity.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2206.84">@36:46</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, I'm not sure what the advantage to that would be. Like, there's, if you hit the contact fields, I guess, on the address and you put it on an entity.
</p>
<p>
I mean, that was the option we discussed. Well, maybe not the exact option, but we discussed having addresses as entities in the last Zoom meeting.
</p>
<p>
And I believe the takeaway from that was that nobody was yearning for addresses to be entities and to be shareable among contacts, but for them to be fields.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2243.16">@37:23</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I agree. I agree that nobody was yearning for there to be shareable entities. And I think we're proposing not shareable entities, but entities for the purpose of flexibility of the data associated with each address.
</p>
<p>
Also, I think one of the challenges we were running into when talking about creating a custom address field, right, is we wouldn't be able to benefit from all the integrations with the address field unless we actually use the address address field.
</p>
<p>
abrahabing the in andvtchanging, and talking destroy So, thank You
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2282.08">@38:02</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, I'd have to look into the integrations available, but I would not assume that it's just going to work.
</p>
<p>
The integrations wouldn't just work with the way you're proposing it. So I'd have to look at it more to speak more authoritatively, but just instinctive.
</p>
<p>
Like, I have a gut feeling that it's just, it's not going to be as elegant.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2310.62">@38:30</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So I can tell you from experience, like the approach to implement that kind of thing that I would use would be to create a view that is a view of contacts, right?
</p>
<p>
And then you would add a relationship for that entity reference from the contact to get their addresses, the address entities, and off the address entity, there's the address field.
</p>
<p>
And that's something that would have, that basically would... Thank You could loop it into the view. Like, it's sort of natively supported by, like, Leaflet, for example, or some of the other, like, GeoMap, stuff like that.
</p>
<p>
But obviously, yeah, take a look.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2355.68">@39:15</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
If you save this form, what does it look like when it renders, like, for the view part?
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
If you save the form, what does it look like? So because it's an entity.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2368.7">@39:28</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right. If you click on your contact.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
Thank you. So here, it's, the way it's outputting right now is a tell link. I don't know why the labels are links, but obviously that's changeable.
</p>
<p>
I think... I think... I I This is the, I just stuck this on the individual contact just for testing purposes.
</p>
<p>
So it is doing a rendered entity right now to list those. And I did not create a custom view mode for that entity.
</p>
<p>
So it's just whatever, whatever that phone number entity comes out as with the fields there. I don't what's wrong with this navigation.
</p>
<p>
So that's the, that's, what's being rendered, right? Folks who were on the call earlier, what else did I miss?
</p>
<p>
What did we discuss?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2475.62">@41:15</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
We were asking why some of these additional fields were there on email and telephone. Well, some of the fields that are shown on email should be hidden, but I mean, the short answer is that they were there on the Civi CRM email, and so that's why they were added here.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2500.42">@41:40</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
It's not a diehard commitment, but it's, I guess, showing that it could be replicated. I was always intending to be able to migrate data from Civi CRM into CRM.
</p>
<p>
So hold is, right, if you send an email and it bounces or doesn't get sent. It gets set as hold and a date is set, right?
</p>
<p>
If you unhold it, right, you reset it, that also gets set as a date.
</p>

</p>
<p>
mean, some of the work that I think should be done initially is just like rearrange these forms a little bit.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2558.26">@42:38</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
Like the primary relationship is in between the phones and the emails, right? Like, so with telephone, right, you have different locations.
</p>
<p>
You can add an extension if you need to. And then when it comes to mobile phones, right? right? Yeah.
</p>
<p>
So your a Knowing whether it's a cell phone or not is important. So that's why you would have a type, right?
</p>
<p>
Will it support SMS messaging?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2589.0">@43:09</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
Mobile.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2591.32">@43:11</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
If you select mobile, you can then select the mobile provider. It's not required, of course, but it should have real names in there, I guess, as opposed to that.
</p>
<p>
But different cell phone providers provide access to doing SMS via email, usually in the form of phone number at, I don't know, some domain like Verizon SMS or whatnot.
</p>
<p>
And so if you, there's a list of those, and that was the intention, but there's not enough features here yet, I guess, also.
</p>
<p>
So I guess valid point, some of these columns or elements should be removed.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2640.9">@44:00</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
And so I guess related to that, Steven, like that's one reason we were kind of keen on the more flexible, extensible model, because then we don't have to have some of these fields up front.
</p>
<p>
Because under a custom field, right, it's hard to add additional columns to that custom field over time.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2844.08">@47:24</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah. And right, the homepage was updated, so.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2850.7">@47:30</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Saw that, we've got some more info.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2857.04">@47:37</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
So I was thinking it would probably be good to put in like a diagram as opposed to just table names.
</p>
<p>
And I think we need an additional entity to get some feedback on that, but I don't know if there's anything really pressing.
</p>
<p>
I'm still kind of waiting for the duration field project to update their stuff. Um... I put in a request to be a co-maintainer, but I don't know.
</p>
<p>
This guy who isn't the maintainer keeps saying he's going to do stuff, but then he doesn't. Like, yeah, I got time.
</p>
<p>
I'm going to do it tomorrow. Two weeks later, you know, like, I don't know. But I think there's about enough stuff here to get started working on something.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2910.1">@48:30</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So you mentioned another entity. So there are three entities proposed here. There's membership, membership type, and membership log. And then what was the fourth one?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=2920.96">@48:40</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
It might just be CRM member. I don't know. So, like, membership is, right, the thing you get. We don't have an e-commerce solution at the moment, but, like, the membership is the thing you would buy if we had one, right?
</p>
<p>
And so we discussed how can we handle multi-person. Memberships, right? Having a membership that goes to a single individual, totally straightforward, right?
</p>
<p>
If we look at the entity, there is even a contact entity reference on membership, right? And that's referencing sort of like who bought it.
</p>
<p>
But that contact doesn't have to be an individual, right? In theory, we also want to be able to support family-based memberships, but also like organization-based memberships, right?
</p>
<p>
If you're a company and everyone who is employed for you gets a membership. And so if we were to use, say, an entity reference field, like a multi-value and just stick in all the contacts, that might work if it's something like limiting it to like only five individuals.
</p>
<p>
Like if it's like a family membership of five or four, but when you scale up to larger items. Or if you wanted to use the relationships between, like, say, a household or employment to determine whether or not they should have access to membership, you're going to need a way to reference that.
</p>
<p>
And so the CRM member is basically an entity with two entity reference fields on it and maybe some timestamps.
</p>
<p>
But this way, if, you know, a new user, like new contact is created and then they're added to your family, your household, you know, there could be code to automatically add them to the appropriate memberships.
</p>
<p>
And so the advantage over an entity reference field on the CRM membership entity is twofold. One, there is going to be a maximum amount of data you can post back to the web server.
</p>
<p>
So if you have a thousand members, that could. You could exceed your maximum post amount, I guess is what I'm saying.
</p>
<p>
Run into that, try to use entity references in places that don't scale. And then the other thing is that if that wasn't a consideration, would you want the change timestamp on the CRM membership entity to change every time someone is added or removed from your household?
</p>
<p>
So by using an additional entity to track that, it gets around a few issues and makes it, I don't know, I don't know if better is the right word.
</p>
<p>
But more scalable.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3096.16">@51:36</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So that would be basically would host the relationship between the CRM membership entity and the contact entity? Individual contacts only.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3109.16">@51:49</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Like if you were to...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3110.74">@51:50</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
One record per contact. Yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3113.06">@51:53</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
The entity reference field on the membership to the contact. I'm pointing as if you can see my finger.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3119.82">@51:59</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
my Just so you know, yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3122.46">@52:02</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
That would still reference the contact, but if it's a household, the household would be the contact reference. If it's an organization, the organization would be what's referenced there.
</p>
<p>
In the CRM member entity, it would only be individuals.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3138.16">@52:18</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Okay, so this is sort of like the primary contact for the membership?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3144.38">@52:24</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sort of. I mean, like, if it's a membership to a household, where do you track that, right? It has to be there, right?
</p>
<p>
And so if we were going to do individuals, right, memberships, it would be there, but I think it would also be in the CRM member table as well, or entity, because if we're going to do things like, So one of the things I want to do after we have some membership code that does stuff would be to create a authorization plugin for the
</p>
<p>
Authorization project so that whether or not a user, right, because there's another CRM user entity which connects your user account with a CRM contact, also an individual, so that when you log in, the authorization provider will check to see if you're a member, and so you, in the authorization module, you can then configure it to if you are a member of the organization or, like, any membership or a specific membership, those can then be mapped to either Drupal roles and or Drupal groups.
</p>
<p>
So if you're part of the Cool Badass Members Club, you can be part of the admin role or a member of the Cool Kids group.
</p>
<p>
I don't know, that, did I just ramble a bit or?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3241.56">@54:01</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
No, clear power features coming. So, okay, so next steps as far as membership then, diagram to help illustrate what these things are, how they work, what they do, and maybe that'll help us get some more brains thinking about the individual.
</p>
<p>
Properties on these entities and, you know, any tweaks that we should make from the start here. Is, which of these things would be fieldable?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3288.82">@54:48</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
So, three of them are content entities. So, in theory, three of them, guess, could be, right? It doesn't make sense to make the config entity fieldable.
</p>
<p>
of on,, пад 1 sampai. let's listen friends have come You Um, I don't know, though, if it really makes sense.
</p>
<p>
So like, membership log, right? When you go to renew your membership, or, right, I'm assuming there's some sort of dues involved, or, you know, I'm assuming not that the majority of memberships are not lifetime.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3322.56">@55:22</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, there'll be a mix for sure.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3324.78">@55:24</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Um, and so again, we don't have a commerce solution or an integration, but you can kind of think of the log as going side by side with a payment history.
</p>
<p>
Um, so right, when you, when the membership would be renewed or updated to extend it, there would be a record somewhere of that being done.
</p>
<p>
Um, I don't know, maybe that, I don't if that really makes sense to include it as part of revisions or not on the CRM membership.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3360.32">@56:00</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, it. I was just asking myself that question. I also don't know the answer.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3367.0">@56:07</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think it had something to do with maybe permissions, but, I mean, we haven't written the code yet, so I guess that really couldn't have been it.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3378.98">@56:18</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So is a single membership entity represents, for example, one year of membership?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3387.46">@56:27</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Based off of the membership type, right, would be the idea. There's a duration setting. So if you decide to set up that your memberships are a monthly membership, right, that would be determined in the type.
</p>
<p>
And if you wanted to offer different amounts, that's totally cool, but also if it's monthly, you can just pay for 12 months at once.
</p>
<p>
But it has to do, it would have more to do with, like, how benefits might accrue. Like, if you're part of an organization.
</p>
<p>
And then there's a monthly newsletter, right? Then that might determine if you get the newsletter. mean, I don't know.
</p>
<p>
Did that answer the question or was I just...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3431.56">@57:11</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Kind of. Yeah, I think we'll have to think through some more use cases.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3439.58">@57:19</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
There could also be like payment logs, I guess. I don't know.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3446.18">@57:26</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, we have up until this point because member platform 1.0 is going to say no payments, right? Beyond that, we've got to track payments.
</p>
<p>
So every membership has been a lifetime membership for us until after 1.0. Sorry, what were you saying?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3464.96">@57:44</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think really that's where the membership log came down. It had something to do with payments, like payment integration.
</p>
<p>
But...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3473.94">@57:53</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Is this modeled off of Civvy?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3476.3">@57:56</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
No. Maybe.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3478.3">@57:58</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Maybe.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3479.0">@57:59</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I don't remember. I mean, from feature sets, maybe, but not necessarily from a database schema perspective.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3493.08">@58:13</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sure. I wonder, I guess I'll ask a leading question. Could CRM 1.0 be released without membership functionality?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3514.28">@58:34</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I don't see an issue with that.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3515.66">@58:35</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Just thinking in, like, you know, sequencing work and stuff. Because actually member platform, ironically, can kind of ignore the concept of memberships in 1.0.
</p>
<p>
Because if you're in our system as a contact, you are a member of the only organization. kind of the initial setup.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3535.48">@58:55</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
So it allows us to defer a little bit of the... I mean, this is also a separate module. Okay.
</p>
<p>
Well... So it's not even like there would be merge conflicts. Sure.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3546.36">@59:06</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So we are coming right up to our allocated time. As usual, I'll stick around for a little longer and chat with anybody who's interested in chatting.
</p>
<p>
We've got plenty of different things we could dive into if anybody's interested, but no pressure at all. Thank you all for joining.
</p>

</p>
<p>
All right. Thanks, JD, Stephen, and everyone else who was here. I think I got to beg out. I've got a few things I got to work on here this morning.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3577.7">@59:37</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

<p>

</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3579.16">@59:39</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
One of them being a potential funded project from a client that is related to this stuff. So who knows?
</p>
<p>
Maybe I can.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3590.76">@59:50</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I like the sound of that.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3592.14">@59:52</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
We'll see. Yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3594.34">@59:54</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Thanks, Bob.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3595.38">@59:55</a> - <strong>Bob Snodgrass</strong>
</p>
<p>
All right. Cool. Talk to you all later. Bye.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3598.8">@59:58</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So, Stephen, do you have a little time you want Do to talk through more CRM things? I updated the CRM homepage, but I didn't put in, like, the top blurb yet.
</p>
<p>
Yeah, do you want to talk through how to make it worthy?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3616.42">@1:00:16</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, we can look at it if you want. Well, I guess we should ask, does anyone else have questions about the membership before we move on?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3624.02">@1:00:24</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I don't want to. I feel like we've got lots to talk about on membership.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3628.96">@1:00:28</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Fair enough.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3630.0">@1:00:30</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
But I'm not sure if people have enough time to dive into it right now. Lee and Nico, are you interested in diving into more detailed stuff about membership?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3641.12">@1:00:41</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Nope.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3643.58">@1:00:43</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
That was a no. And how about you, Lee? Not hearing from Lee. So we'll assume no for sure.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3652.86">@1:00:52</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
No.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3655.58">@1:00:55</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So project description.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3658.48">@1:00:58</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
So the easiest thing, like, at the bottom. At bottom of the page, I didn't include the comparison. I just included the link.
</p>
<p>
That was very sensible.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3668.46">@1:01:08</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
What I did when I drafted the comparison page in the documentation is I was trying to be sort of neutral.
</p>
<p>
And I was a little less neutral in the draft on this, but that's fine. I was kind of trying to answer the question like, why does this project exist, given the presence of other projects?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3692.26">@1:01:32</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Well, why do any of us exist? I mean, it's just like some aspirational statements here, I guess, in the propose or, right, the Google CRM project aims to be the preferred foundation.
</p>
<p>
You know, I thought we would go big or go home and just declare ourselves the preferred foundation.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3714.66">@1:01:54</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sure. Shall I edit the issue summary here?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3720.08">@1:02:00</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sure. mean, I'm... But I didn't, like, write it all out, like, verbatim. I was just thinking, right, I've read a lot of project summaries in my life, like most people here, and is there more to the purpose?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3745.96">@1:02:25</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I was just coming up with stuff here.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=3749.46">@1:02:29</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I don't know if I was going to include purpose in the actual, as a header, but, like, the text is fine.

<p>
At least that was my thought, like, there's already an H1 header right above the text, why?

</p>
<p>
Yeah, so that's a good, good place to add more stuff. Um, but I guess we need to figure out some of the architectural things before we do too much there.
</p>
<p>
Um. Um, I'm a little concerned about adding additional dependencies, but I'm not, uh.
</p>

<p>
Uh. Uh. Dogmatic about it. I have had some bad experiences, though, on the CRM core project. They made the decision to use the dynamic entity reference field.

<p>
So, as far as dependencies, though, likely dependencies would be inline entity reference, address, probably Drupal core telephone. And or email.
</p>

</p>
<p>
Thank you. I'm not familiar with this storage module you've been mentioning, so. Storage entities, I'm not tied to using these.
</p>
<p>
Oh, yeah. I know that guy. Yeah, Martin is, he's good. He keeps some good things. So this was his baby.
</p>
<p>
And actually, it's easier to just show you. So, I don't know why this navigation is being weird for me.
</p>
<p>
So it's basically like a cut-down version of nodes, right? It's like, it's an entity type, right? Storage, storage is the entity type, right?
</p>
<p>
And the storage types are bundles. So, I don't And it just provides a way in the UI to have fieldable bundles that don't have all the baggage associated with content types.
</p>
<p>
So it's useful for things like this, you know, particularly where you're using inline entity reference, right? Inline entity reference?
</p>
<p>
I'm getting mixed up. Entity reference field using inline entity form, thank you. So there's nothing like particularly fancy to see here, right?
</p>
<p>
It's fieldable. It's got, you know, a few options. But I don't think that, I don't think it is necessary by any means to use this.
</p>
<p>
Yeah. I'm not sure that it provides. It provides much of benefit beyond creating a custom entity apart from not having to create a custom entity, but I'll do a little more thinking on that and see if I have a reason to suggest storage over just a custom entity, but I don't know that I do.
</p>
<p>
All right, have a random question for you. Monorepo, with obviously there's some submodules, and I would imagine over time there might also be recipes and other things.
</p>
<p>
All right. Read, but do not have firsthand experience that says that monorepos, like a monorepo can help manage the overall, like dealing with a bunch of different modules and recipes that need to be split into different Drupal projects while having a common set of tests and other things that kind of work across the whole thing.
</p>
<p>
So at this early stage, I wanted to ask if you have any experience or knowledge of this stuff and whether you think a monorepo could make sense in possibly splitting out the submodules into their own projects on Drupal.org.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4176.14">@1:09:36</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, I have worked with projects that have multiple repos on Drupal.org, but we're really just implementing like one thing, and I found it to be more cumbersome to maintain them.
</p>
<p>
I think it really comes down to how integral the modules are. Like if the default install is expected to use everything, or not everything, but if like the default install is expected to use certain modules, they should probably be part of the same project.
</p>
<p>
I mean, I also see how if we had, say like a bulk email feature, that there would probably be multiple other projects that would handle integration with MailChimp or whatever the other hundred million different commercial solutions are.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4246.28">@1:10:46</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
The value in not pulling all the dependencies in if you're just dealing with the core CRM stuff.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4253.6">@1:10:53</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, there would be, I mean, like, I feel like membership is pretty close to... Contacts. But contacts don't need membership.
</p>
<p>
So maybe membership could be its own thing, but I don't really...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4272.04">@1:11:12</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I kind of err on the side of splitting things out. I'm kind of under the assumption that there will eventually be recipes that absolutely must be in their own projects in Drupal.org, right?
</p>
<p>
I guess.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4288.3">@1:11:28</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I mean, I'm not... I've looked at recipes, but it's not something I really do a lot with, so...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4294.82">@1:11:34</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I guess what I'm saying is a recipe is required to be a general project. It can't be shipped as part of a module project.
</p>
<p>
And I'm going to assume that at some point there will probably be recipes that help set up CRM things.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4313.28">@1:11:53</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Oh, I see.

</p>
<p>
And so if they're... And so what I'm kind of wondering is, like, if that's the case... And it kind of begs the question, should we have a monorepo to support that future case and thus also do things like spin out membership, spin out case, you know, activity, whatever the stuff is that's, like, not necessary, like, necessarily part of a CRM?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4339.38">@1:12:19</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Are you proposing that we go to a monorepo solution or not adopt a monorepo solution?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4345.84">@1:12:25</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
That we adopt.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4348.18">@1:12:28</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think, I thought we already did, right? Everything's in one repository.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4354.3">@1:12:34</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Did you go into source code? No, so monorepo, the idea is, yes, everything is in one repo. That's where it's edited.
</p>
<p>
However, there's a build process that basically splits things out into multiple projects, including Drupal.org projects. And it pushes the relevant code, right, to those.
</p>
<p>
ofol up..活 Those projects, which is necessary for recipes and is a choice for modules depending on whether you want them to ship with the module or not.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4396.9">@1:13:16</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, I'm still not. I googled monorepo just to make sure I was on the same page. So I don't know, like, where would this monorepo exist then if you're going to split it out onto other projects?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4413.28">@1:13:33</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So it would, there would need to be a namespace where the monorepo lives. And then, like, there are different choices there.
</p>
<p>
But it could result, right, in a portion of that monorepo basically being pushed to Drupal.org slash project slash CRM and a portion of it to other namespaces.
</p>
<p>
add... So... So... So... So... ... So that monorepo could live in a general project on dribble.org, for example, you know, through GitLab.
</p>
<p>
I've seen them on GitHub, too, but I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to deal with both.
</p>
<p>
As I said, I don't have experience with this yet, but I've kind of seen the writing on the wall.
</p>
<p>
This might make sense. I mean, relative usage of the different modules, because dribble.org doesn't break down usage of submodules, right, as far as the statistics?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4491.84">@1:14:51</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
No. No. I mean, I've spun off projects like submodules before as separate projects for that reason. Right. How many people are using the web analytics and how many people are using the IP geolocation stuff?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4507.58">@1:15:07</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

</p>
<p>
I mean, the only one that I can really think of right now would be membership and...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4516.92">@1:15:16</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Pace?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4521.5">@1:15:21</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Potentially, but...
</p>

</p>
<p>
I guess another advantage is, let's say there's a bunch of development going on in CASE, but not in the rest of it.
</p>
<p>
It means somebody doesn't need to deal with dependency updates if they're not using CASE.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
Otherwise, the versioning needs to match across the modules, right?

</p>
<p>
Yeah, but that's part of the build process. I mean... I don't know if there's enough code in CASE to spin it off yet.
</p>
<p>
I don't... I don't know there's really enough code in CRM to, like, let's maybe get to a 1.0 release and then have other features and consider that.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
No, that makes sense. The only thing I don't know, because I just don't have the familiarity with it, is what additional barriers would there be to making that decision later?
</p>
<p>
But, like, I don't know.
</p>
<p>

<p>
The namespace you want may not be available. I think it's, like, the only one I can think of, but...

</p>
<p>
I'm thinking more about, like, would... Oh, I see what you're saying. Like, CRM case could... If CRM case ships as a submodule, can you later create a Drupal.org project with that namespace and have a migration path?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4609.8">@1:16:49</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, it's, like, clearing your cache, basically.
</p>

</p>
<p>
Like, it's something that's, like, you remember how statistics is core project up until Drupal 11? yeah. So... Okay. Okay.
</p>
<p>
And so it was spun off as a community project. And so it's like, okay, I want to upgrade to 11 and keep statistics.
</p>
<p>
But like, what do I do? Clear your cache.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4634.4">@1:17:14</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

</p>
<p>
I mean, if there was an issue in terms of namespacing, that could be a problem. But I, since everything's prefixed with CRM, I don't think there's a big risk of that.
</p>

<p>
no. Built-in protection. I haven't looked at the external ID.

</p>
<p>
This was something I was dealing with for a prod. Well, so let's say you have some sort of existing case management system.
</p>
<p>
And so this is, migration would not. Be a practical solution because that's done, like, periodically, and if you needed to integrate it with something, you need a field, and it's best to have a field that you can do stuff on, I think was what I had.
</p>
<p>
Like, I have different validators, I think, or a hook or something. This is something I need in order to have a different project work.
</p>
<p>
So, or, I thought I did.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4719.62">@1:18:39</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So I guess a philosophical question. When things like that crop up, if it's not clearly, like, a generalizable need, should it be in the CRM namespace, or should it, like, should it be in a, like, a separate Contra project?
</p>
<p>
Thank you.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4739.6">@1:18:59</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Thank you. I mean, there are like five key features that I was looking to, that I think CRM should have, right?
</p>
<p>
Some sort of support case system, some sort of membership tracking system, some sort of send you emails, and then I guess like some sort of, it could either be done with groups or views, but some way of like making lists of people, like here are the same 10 jerks I have to call every month to tell them to send in their check or, you know, whatever it is, right?
</p>
<p>
I don't know exactly what that would be, but I don't know. There were like five of them for CRM to be CRM.
</p>
<p>
If we read the feature set of Civi CRM, I would be able to answer your questions better. All right, let's see here.
</p>
<p>
Oh, yeah, so like some sort of event thing, some sort of case support, right, membership we discussed, we discussed bulk messaging, being able to give them money, right, in addition to buying some sort of membership, like here's $20 for the printing of the newsletter or whatever, right?
</p>
<p>
Then the core functionality of just like being able to manage contacts by having them as entities with email and telephone and address, right?
</p>
<p>
Like, I was trying to avoid the having spent time on the CRM core project. aerapeaION, bit And They really had the same focus of trying to push stuff out of the project, but they didn't have enough meat in the project to warrant anyone else extending the project.
</p>
<p>
Like they didn't even provide the contact fields, which is kind of like, I think, something you need to have in the base of it in order to extend it correctly.
</p>
<p>
Like if you don't know what you're extending, then.
</p>
<p>

So the charts project has run into sort of the same question. Right. It's generic charting with views, and then they have like five other sub projects to support different charting libraries.
</p>
<p>
And so they have an issue in their backlog to spin them off as separate projects. And they haven't done it
</p>
<p>
Yet, but that makes sense to me, though, because each one of those charting projects has a JavaScript dependency, and you would then get your own Composer file, and dependencies would be handled smoother that way.
</p>
<p>
We don't have any library dependencies at the moment, right? Like, if you look in the Composer file, it's, like, pretty vanilla.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
Right.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4945.78">@1:22:25</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Um, if we add, if we use contributed, you know, fields or other stuff, that will change, but it's not like, it's not like CRM case is adding a bunch of extra JavaScript or other libraries that, you know, you wouldn't normally need to have installed.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4965.08">@1:22:45</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right. So, like, telephone validation, telephone formatter would add a library.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4971.9">@1:22:51</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Mm-hmm. But that's, you can't get rid of that. Yeah, you need that built into the, I keep trying to avoid the word core because of CRM core.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=4979.1">@1:22:59</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I know, it's so hard to avoid. Key functionality.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
I did make the wise decision not to have the project contain a submodule called CRM core.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
I didn't have that much. I'd be really worried if you had. I guess it just makes it impossible to install both.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5003.44">@1:23:23</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>

<p>
Well, I would have needed to migrate from one to the other.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
Yep, that would be no good. Different other question. The CRM website field type, how does that compare to some of the existing social media links fields projects out there?
</p>
<p>
<strong>ACTION ITEM: Research existing social media links field projects; compare to CRM website field type -<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5019.9999"> WATCH</a></strong>

<p>
It is multi-value, and you have a drop-down box, and that determines the validator.

</p>
<p>
At least it would. Yeah. And so the idea would be like, if you select Facebook, right, it would be your Facebook profile page.
</p>
<p>
Or LinkedIn or whatever it is.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5055.22">@1:24:15</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I'll try to look and see. I think there's some fairly heavily used Contrib modules that basically provide that capability and, you know, probably also provide like icons for them and stuff like that.
</p>
<p>
So I'll take a look. But I think there's nothing like unique to CRM about that one, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5077.18">@1:24:37</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>

<p>

</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5083.76">@1:24:43</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Sure. It's nice to have features. People are like, oh, I can see using this, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5091.0">@1:24:51</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
I think there may or may not be an item in the backlog for external contact IDs. If you had to do integration with another system.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5100.34">@1:25:00</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5100.0">@1:25:00</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
And I think this is here so that people wouldn't try using that for something stupid like Facebook. Because there are systems where it's not a numerical ID for things.
</p>
<p>
And so.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5113.94">@1:25:13</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

</p>
<p>
But that's only for like if you're actively integrating with another CRM system, not migrating. Right. Like where you're have a Drupal thing and it does stuff with your other system on the back end and they're running parallel would be the scenario.
</p>
<p>
Not you're going from one system to the next.
</p>
<p>

<p>

</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
I mean, we've got a long list of things that Member Platform eventually would like to address. None of this is organized in any way, shape, or form.
</p>
<p>
I mean, event management is a whole realm of things, which you mentioned, but there's a lot to do there, right?
</p>
<p>
Um, e-commerce integrations.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5193.7">@1:26:33</a> - <strong>steven.ayers</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right, we talked about contributions and having membership, being able to be purchased.
</p>
<p>

</p>

</p>
<p>
That's our integration option. Like the integration with Drupal Commerce, I imagine, might be a separate module, or maybe not, since that's the most popular one.
</p>
<p>
But other, I imagine there's other commerce solutions, right? I think we wouldn't want to support all of them in the core product.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5220.18">@1:27:00</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

</p>
<p>
Yeah, but the idea, right, is providing something out of the box, not requiring an end user to configure things.
</p>
<p>
I'm not saying that should be in CRM, right? But just, like, a thing that would... This is member platform context, not specific to CRM.
</p>

<p>
Welcome. Maybe I have a question just because I was thinking about it. When I think about the contacts, will there be any feature that we know which contact element, like the email address or the telephone number?
</p>
<p>
Can be, can be used for contacting the people.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5347.98">@1:29:07</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, marketing up in kind of preferences stuff.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5351.36">@1:29:11</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, per field. So like when you have got the permission to contact them. so like this would be in Austria or in Europe, it's quite a topic to get all the information.
</p>
<p>
When I have got the permission to contact them and where and when and why, like the info field. And yeah, this would be good per field, like not for the contact itself.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5377.34">@1:29:37</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I agree. And that's actually, that's part of why I was pushing for an extensible entity to track each contact information.
</p>
<p>
I don't know what to call it, contact items. Yeah, information for that is to support things like that. I'm not sure whether C.
</p>
<p>
CRM would take that on as CRM, but certainly privacy-oriented stuff is a priority for a member platform, especially given the global scope.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5417.42">@1:30:17</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, just wanted to.
</p>
<p>

</p>
<p>
Do you have anything to point me to or any thoughts on how to represent that information or modules that are used today?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5428.9">@1:30:28</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
No, not yet. I think it's quite – what's it called?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5435.48">@1:30:35</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Right? Innovation?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5437.6">@1:30:37</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah. It should be per field something, and this makes it quite messy, I guess.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5444.52">@1:30:44</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So maybe, yeah. Yeah, I was thinking about that. We have a general – a similar analogous issue with like, okay, per contact – per field on the contact.
</p>
<p>
Right? For many of the fields. Which of these fields, like what is the visibility of these fields to the public, to other members, you know, like that's basically like a similar thing.
</p>
<p>
We kind of have to decorate each field with some additional information. And it sounds like the same thing with, you know, right to contact or something like that.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5487.68">@1:31:27</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, maybe think first easy and then, yes, and the good part would be when it's flexible that it's get, it's not as tight to something.
</p>
<p>
So this is also something I think it's quite good. But the other, the relations, less relations are good. Like, like the, for if we have not everything in entities, I think it could be, yeah, slow down.
</p>
<p>
Some things when it's bigger, but I think it should work.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5519.34">@1:31:59</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
So. For the, like, contact preference concept. So that would be relevant for emails, for phone numbers, and for addresses, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5542.1">@1:32:22</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yes.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5544.32">@1:32:24</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Would it be the same information you would track for each? Like, is it basically, like, opted in, opted out, or neither?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5554.04">@1:32:34</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, I think it could be multiple. I think it's, like I said, opted in, when is opted in, and how they opted in.
</p>
<p>
Maybe a note, something. Like, normally if you have, like, the data, also when you got it, when you got the information and how.
</p>
<p>
Because then you can also maybe use the tool as a source for email newsletter. And email newsletter need also, where do you get it?
</p>
<p>
I think it would be good to have it on top. So I think it's multiple fields for that.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5587.42">@1:33:07</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
And there's almost like a kind of, I wonder if there's a, does there need to be like a global opt-in, opt-out per contact, like per person?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5604.42">@1:33:24</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yes, I think also something like this, because there is like the Robinson lists and a lot of things. And you should also have there maybe some global thing, don't contact at all.
</p>
<p>
So like a kill switch for a person, because they said, I don't want to contact it.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5623.24">@1:33:43</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I'm done with you. I'm done with you, but I haven't submitted a formal right to be forgotten request. Okay, and then you would need it for each recipient information.
</p>
<p>
I don't know what to call it, right? Contact information. And then beyond that, there will be a need in many cases to track preferences.
</p>
<p>
For example, I, you know, I guess another question is how does this relate to transactional versus marketing messaging, right?
</p>
<p>
You am I opting out of transactional things? Like now I, can I even opt out of transactional things? Or is there a concept, you know, of required communication?
</p>
<p>
Because you did something.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5672.9">@1:34:32</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>

</p>

</p>
<p>
I know the answer in the US, but I don't know. In Europe, it's probably a little more complicated.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5679.2">@1:34:39</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
You can, you have to store specific data. Like if, like if you're, if it's a member of something, you need to be able to know the person and save some of the data.
</p>
<p>
they make something which is illegal, something like this on your site or upload some crap on your site, then you still need to.
</p>
<p>
Have some data. Even if they say they want to be forgotten. Yeah, it's complicated. But when we are in this area, I have some lawyers who want to help me.
</p>
<p>
Also, like, I can convince them that they want to help me. So, like, yeah, I'm also in this, like, set in the GDPR track.
</p>
<p>
So, and we did also a GDPR and a module from scratch for one, yeah, the protection stuff. So there is already some knowledge.
</p>

</p>
<p>
I think Juergen's involved with some of that too, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5736.84">@1:35:36</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, sure. He's the lead. I'm just, I don't know how it's called, under him, like, I have to do what he says now.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5747.16">@1:35:47</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Very good. Yeah, it's interesting. And I'm wondering, like, how some of this data should be structured and in a way that is, you know.
</p>
<p>
Like, how do we meet a given country or region's regulatory and compliance needs and also others, right, like other regions, in a way that's not overwhelming, you know, in a way that's, like, generalizable, right?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5778.26">@1:36:18</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
You know, I don't know. Yeah, for Drupal CMS, the next part is we want to get a new module in, so we get it out from another suite.
</p>
<p>
Where you can get the data protection informations from a system, so you can mark specific fields, this is a private data point, and then you can say, okay, this is my email address and this is my name, and I want to get all my data, what is what you have saved, and this information is getting to a data protection officer, so, like, one on the site, someone who is aware of it, just scans it and says, okay, this data is everything.
</p>
<p>
Everything, what we have and stuff, and then it sends it, and they get a login or like a page where they can scan all the data, what they want, or see all the data.
</p>
<p>
So we have a man in the middle, or it's called man in middle, like a person who just approves it still.
</p>
<p>
It's not an automatic system, but this should be in core, maybe in triple CMS 2.0. Let's see what is the plan.
</p>
<p>
And this can be also then help here, because we have like a specific field settings, like, and this is also for a pluggable, or like a more open version would be good for that, because these are display form settings, or a few, I think form settings for like that.
</p>
<p>
You can say this is a field which is specially protected, or this is a private field, so I have three or four settings per field.
</p>
<p>
And then the module knows also more about it.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5879.48">@1:37:59</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Interesting. Do you have any idea what the general mechanism for tracking information about each field is? Not just that, for that use case, but like we were talking about for like visibility of a field or something like that.
</p>
<p>
Is it like an event listener or something that inserts?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5905.12">@1:38:25</a> - <strong>Nico</strong>
</p>
<p>
I don't know, but it's a setting which is saved up to the field first. So like a, I think a form mode, no, not a form mode, form setting, like third party setting.
</p>
<p>
Yeah, I'm not sure where it is. I haven't looked into it.
</p>
<p>

<p>
Bye. How you doing, Lee?
</p>

<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5938.0">@1:38:58</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
I'm doing all right. Sorry, I've not been very. Useful today. It's my first day back in the US after being gone for a while, and everyone's bloody calling me.
</p>
<p>
But my car's in the shop.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5950.14">@1:39:10</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
There's a whole bunch of stuff going on. Okay, very good.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5953.38">@1:39:13</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
I'm trying to follow along and deal with all the craziness today.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5957.66">@1:39:17</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Understood. Any questions or things on your mind?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5961.14">@1:39:21</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
No, I did get a call from the local scout council. They want to meet and talk about what they're after.
</p>
<p>
So it might be interesting to see what their requirements are. So I'm hoping to sell them, building them a new one as well.
</p>
<p>
But while I'm at it, I want them to effectively hire me to build the council site.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5985.58">@1:39:45</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5986.0">@1:39:46</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
And either use the member platform and end up with effectively a council site distribution, for want of a better description.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=5999.18">@1:39:59</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yep.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6000.04">@1:40:00</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah. So the idea is you can use that and build council sites out of it, and everyone's council sites, we should.
</p>
<p>
So it'll be interesting to see.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6008.52">@1:40:08</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I wonder what similarities there are between Scout councils and YMCA?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6015.84">@1:40:15</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yes, that's, yeah. You know what, OpenY distribution? Yeah, I remember talking to many of the presentations about it at DrupalCon.
</p>
<p>
I've installed it, I've talked to, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Probo, what's his name?
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6036.14">@1:40:36</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
That's Avi.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6037.24">@1:40:37</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
Avi, Avi, there you go, having a brain fart. I talked to Avi about it just at DrupalCon in Atlanta, because he was talking about it again.
</p>
<p>
And I think our Chattanooga YMCA uses it now, like recently in the last year. So it might be interesting to see.
</p>
<p>
So Yes, it's interesting to see what they need. I mean, my biggest problem with the Scout Council stuff is they organize things for all these Scouts.
</p>
<p>
And the way I tell what's going on is I pay attention to their email blasts they send out. I can't go to the website and find things.
</p>
<p>
You have to kind of go to the calendar, and then it's that crappy calendar with a box, and you have to know what the damn thing's called.
</p>
<p>
And, like, some things are for Cubs, which are 11 and under, and some things are for Scouts, which are older, and some things are for Sea Scouts.
</p>
<p>
But you can't filter on those or do anything like that and find out what the heck is going on.
</p>
<p>
And I do it by actively talking to people and getting it right in my head. But that doesn't help anybody else, right?
</p>
<p>
Right. So, I was at the... the... was Thank you. They do an adult training thing. So I was at University of Scouting like in February and happened to mention to one of the guys there, I complained that, you know, that's literally what I do for a living and it drives me nuts.
</p>
<p>
And he goes, oh, we're going to build a new site. And I was like, we should talk because I've already built one back in the day I built when I first started on Drupal.
</p>
<p>
So it would be Drupal 7. It must have been Drupal 7 at the time. I built one of the very large Texas council sites.
</p>
<p>
They already had it all laid out. They just want someone to build it. And I was subcontracted for Music City Networks out of Nashville when I was just getting started.
</p>
<p>
So that has to be 10, 15 years ago, more. So I've seen council sites before. So I'm not entirely sure if they need...
</p>
<p>
Oh my gosh, it's more people again. It's Google voice.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6180.46">@1:43:00</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
I just...
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6180.7">@1:43:00</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
If I don't recognize it, if someone calls my 423, which is my Google voice number, and I don't recognize it, just don't answer it, so.
</p>
<p>
That, and I've been gone for a month, right? And I've been expecting all these deliveries, and it's mostly Kickstarter stuff, and nothing came.
</p>
<p>
I left my keys with the other businesses around me, and I've had like nine things turn up in the month that have been away.
</p>
<p>
not once, get this though, not once did they press my Google Nest doorbell and talk to me. Because I would have said, take it upstairs, and if you can't get in the door, I can give you the code you can type in, and close the door again.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6224.62">@1:43:44</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, they're all under pressure to get things delivered, quote unquote, as fast as possible.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6229.58">@1:43:49</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
But they have to come back the next day, it's just going to make it worse, right? So, um, had a note on the door, I've got a metal door, like high up above the glass that said, leave them with the water.
</p>
<p>
And as far as I could tell, what would happen is, I'd get notification on my phone that someone's standing there with a package because the Google AI, you know, does it.
</p>
<p>
But by the time I get it and see it, the guy's walking up the steps and out the way.
</p>
<p>
And I'm like, Mr. UPS guy, Mr. UPS, he's already gone. like, look at the recording. And it looks like he's written something down and stuck it to my window.
</p>
<p>
And I'm like, God damn it. There's a button there. But it turns out I didn't need to get that upset because they all did end up to people up there.
</p>
<p>
So, yeah.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6275.5">@1:44:35</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
Well, once you get around to it, even before you have requirements for, you know, actual requirements from a client, if you could even just with your past knowledge brainstorm, like, what are requirements for a council site?
</p>
<p>
And we've got an issue to, you know, add general use cases and requirements to, that would help inform the roadmap.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6299.74">@1:44:59</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
Yeah, the, uh. I mean, it's actually my problem with the council sites is actually my problem with meetup.com, which is you join a group, then it doesn't tell you anything's coming up.
</p>
<p>
You're actually an active member of that group. It doesn't say, hey, next week are the, you know, a once weekly email saying this is what's coming up next week.
</p>
<p>
And you think that would be super easy. But, yeah, a whole bunch of those things. Occasionally, I miss stuff because even though I'm a member of the group, it didn't tell me.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6331.84">@1:45:31</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>

<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6333.54">@1:45:33</a> - <strong>Lee Walker</strong>
</p>
<p>
And all I need is an email going, hey, don't forget. If it's not on your calendar, what I do now is I put them all on my calendar.
</p>
<p>
But, yeah, it would be nice to have.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6343.9">@1:45:43</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

<p>

<p>
Thank you. I thought to get a lot of work done. I was basically looking after my mum back in the UK.
</p>
<p>
Oh, yeah? The hospital appointments and things. But mothers go, let's go down for a cup of coffee and I have to take her out.
</p>
<p>
She couldn't drive, she can't drive because of the meds she's on. So I have to take her everywhere. And yeah, she's like, oh, it's the middle of the day.
</p>
<p>
Let's go and do something fun.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6371.22">@1:46:11</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>

<p>
I'm like, oh, okay.

</p>
<p>
So I maybe got 25% done of what I thought I would get done while I was there. It's all fine.
</p>
<p>
You know, I loved my mom and I was very happy to be with her. But, uh.
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://fathom.video/share/HuLovey5cyiBipA1Pz1UXtW9Zu_J3cF_?timestamp=6385.42">@1:46:25</a> - <strong>JD Leonard (modernbizconsulting.com)</strong>
</p>
<p>
And also.

</p>
<p>
And there was a heat wave, right? While we were there, it was getting, I was working in her conservatory.
</p>
<p>
So glass roof, glass sides. And by like noon, it was probably a good 90 degrees in there. Even with all the windows open and the fans on.
</p>
<p>
