I thought it would be useful to think through a series of banner ads geared to the 90% of users and all anonymous visitors on d.o.

This list needs to be built on, but wanted to get a thread going. I had mentioned it in https://git.drupalcode.org/project/drupalorg/-/work_items/2185511 and also on a call earlier today with Holly from the Drupal Association.

I think this should largely take the form of motivational styled text. Graphics should be minimized, but they should be possible.

They can be notes to encourage people to sign up & join Drupal. About the strengths of participating in this community, or highlighting roles that need to be filled.

Just like the Social Media Request form there should be a means to highlight requests from the community.

It might be that we want to have some ads geared to the 1% & 9% of users, but let's not worry about that yet. Let's start with the folks who aren't already in the choir.

If we know that an anonymous user is coming from say France, why not have the message in French? Let's start using some geolocation stuff to encourage non-English speaking folks to be involved more (even if this is an English dominant location).

These should be randomly generated and there should be enough of them that people don't feel annoyed and look forward to these as a way to help them learn more about the community.

Ideas for Ads.

I also expect to see ads for upcoming DrupalCons. If we're already doing geo lookups, then it would be brilliant to link that into upcoming Camps.

It would be great to have information highlighting new changes that are anticipated on d.o.

Let's start selling the features of Drupal 8! Just nice little bullet points to remind folks regularly what we're building and what they can start looking forward to in D8.

If there are sites we're proud of that are using Drupal, let's feature them. Did you know that the Grammy's were delivered with Drupal?

Why not pop-up and alert folks just before the core mentoring hours.

When the community spotlight is active again, it would be great to regularly advertise people in the community spotlight.

We could congratulate modules that have their first 1000 sites using it or that finally get that co-maintainer they have been asking about. There are lots of little victories that we could be celebrating. I do think that doing this would both make us feel better about Drupal and give us yet one more reason to talk about it.
